Experience the uniqueness of Old Cobbin Homestead, built in 1864 for Mr James Thompson, his wife and 9 children, with walls several feet thick and a history we are still unearthing.
A certain A.B. (Banjo) Patterson is known to be a friend and guest of the original owner. Family albums are being searched for the photo of him in front of the Homestead.
Formerly the centre of a 7,000 acre property, the original Homestead is full of character and family memories.
The Homestead has a large yet cozy lounge room with original and updated features warmed by a wood heater. The large four seater couch and two wingback chairs encircle the fireplace for great story telling and enough space for other evening activities.
The kitchen with new, large gas stove/oven and benches has a family sized table for meals, games and stories about the days skiing or other adventures. Warmed by an efficient Lopi wood heater, this well-appointed country kitchen is the heart of the Homestead.
The large master bedroom had the enormous fire-place blocked up many decades ago and is now warmed by an efficient Nobo heater. Snuggle up in the king sized bed with beautifully soft Cultiver linen sheets, or relax in the cosy velvet chair with a good book by the window warmed with morning sun.
The second bedroom has a bunk and two single beds with a large and small dresser to put away clothes so it feels more like home. With lovely Cultiver linen sheets and good sized beds this room is suitable for adults or children. A fifth bed (trundle/rollaway) in this room can be provided on request.
In the centre of the house is a room that in the 1800s and early 1900s served as the pantry to hold the family's essential supplies. It is from here you access the bathroom with shower over bath, sink and soft towels and connect through to the laundry/drying room with washing machine and dryer. Added in 1961 more than 100 years after the Homestead was built, and updated since, we hope you enjoy these 'modern' amenities while remembering that we rely solely on rainfall and tank water for our showers. We appreciate you using water wisely.
